World Records on the Bobby-Car

This website provides a comprehensive overview of current world records involving Bobby-Cars by the company BIG, as well as ride-on toys from other manufacturers. Among them are officially recognized speed records by RID and Guinness World Records, the largest collection of Bobby-Car-related items, the fastest known race tracks in Bobby-Car racing, and several other records related to these little cars.

Official World Record Attempt 2026

rekorde

The hunt for records with the little cars enters the next round. After nearly two years of downtime and a great deal of planning, we're excited to announce something new.

Under the motto "The Mountain Is Calling! World Record Attempt", we are currently in the planning phase for two new downhill records.

Following the inclusion of our E-Bobby-Car record in the Guinness World Records Book 2025, the next step is now underway: We are aiming for a general ride-on toy world record with the title

"Fastest downhill speed on a ride-on toy car".

To have this record officially recognized, the vehicle must be completely stock - any modifications or attachments are strictly prohibited.

For the stock Bobby-Car record back in 2022 , it was still allowed under the rules of the RID and the Bobby-Car-Sport-Verband to add safety-relevant wheel nuts. However, this type of modification is no longer permitted in the new category.

We therefore set out to find the ideal ride-on toy and succeeded early last year. The new record vehicle comes standard with a steel steering system and ball-bearing hard rubber tires - perfect for high-speed mountain descents. Which model it is will remain a secret for now. A video revealing more will be released in the coming weeks on our YouTube channel.

During an initial test run with the stock ride-on car on our test track, we already reached an impressive speed of 94 km/h (58 mph).

rekorde

We're confident that speeds well over 100 km/h (62 mph) are possible during the official world record attempt.

The second record attempt on the same day will aim to beat the 2022 record of 130.72 km/h on a modified Bobby-Car without any form of propulsion. This attempt will be recognized by Guinness World Records under the international title

"Fastest downhill speed on a modified ride-on toy car".

To accomplish this, a completely new racing Bobby-Car is being developed this year - visually close to the original but significantly more stable and aerodynamic in terms of engineering.

The ride will take place on a mountain pass road in Austria with a length of 2.4 km and a maximum gradient of 20%, promising a substantial challenge compared to the 2022 run.

Both records will also be submitted for recognition by the REKORD-INSTITUT für DEUTSCHLAND and Guinness World Records, as well as by the World Gravity Speed Association.

The WGSA is dedicated to certifying downhill speed records in both km/h and mph and maintains a comprehensive list of records on this page: LINK

More information about the record attempts will follow in the coming weeks - stay tuned!

We broke the world record!

rekorde

Marcel Paul achieved an incredible 148.454 km/h on Thursday (10.08.2023) on the Hockenheimring racetrack with a modified Bobby-Car featuring an electric drive. He accomplished this on his first attempt. "It's simply amazing, just like 'Back to the Future'!" exclaimed the 31-year-old. After all, his goal was to surpass the 88 mph (141.62 km/h) required by the DeLorean in the iconic movie for time travel.

Evaluation by the measuring device from ALGE Timing.

The average speed of 148.454 km/h, recorded over a distance of 100 m, has been officially recognized by Laura Kuchenbecker, the record adjudicator from the REKORD-INSTITUT für DEUTSCHLAND.

Title of the world record: "Highest speed on a modified Bobby-Car with electric drive"

We now hope for an additional entry by Guinness World Records. The previous record in the category of "Fastest ride-on toy car (modified)" was 64.37 km/h.

GWR

We would like to express our gratitude to all those who supported our project over the past ten months. Without you, this would not have been possible!

Highest gratitude goes to the operators and contributors of the Hockenheimring racetrack, who provided us with the track for the endeavor. We would like to extend our preeminent thanks to Holger Späth and Holger Steinkuhl - they played a pivotal role in finding a suitable track for the record attempt.

The greatest appreciation for the construction of the vehicle goes to NTG in Gelnhausen, and to all employees who contributed to this project. "Without this support, the entire project would not have been possible," emphasized Marcel Paul. A special thanks goes to the man with the saw.

We would also like to thank SKF, the manufacturer of the smoothest hybrid deep groove ball bearings, which made such high speed possible. Thanks are also due to the CST tire manufacturer for the finest Bobby-Car racing tires that provided excellent stability even at high speeds.

Heartfelt gratitude also goes to Hacker for their guidance in designing the drive system. We are greatly indebted to BIG Spielwarenfabrik from Fürth for providing us with the Baby Porsche model.

Furthermore, we thank Sylvia Schärer and Günther Strohhammer from GSI-SPORTS-TIMING for measuring the speed. We also extend our gratitude to the Department of Mechatronics at Hochschule Fulda and the Bobby-Car-Sport Association (Nina Amend, Matteo Amend, Tobias Moser) for their strong support in planning and executing the record attempt.

We want to extend a special thanks to reporter and host Daniel Mohr. The journalist will create a feature on the record attempt for the show "Abenteuer Leben". "Without this collaboration, the project would not have been possible," emphasized Marcel Paul, expressing appreciation for the excellent teamwork.

Of course, we also thank other media representatives who attended and ensured extensive coverage.

Additional thanks go to the helpers behind Bobby-Car World Records: David Reimund, Sebastian Paul, Barbara Paul, and Christoph Schultz.

Official World Record Attempt 2023

What began as a student project at Fulda University is now turning into a world record attempt at Hockenheimring.

Race Bobby Car

Where normally the grand race cars and Formula 1 reside, the two students Marcel Paul (31) and David Reimund (23) will set an electric Bobby Car speed record following the guidelines of the REKORD-INSTITUT für DEUTSCHLAND and Guinness World Records with their compact 70 cm long and 30 kg lightweight mini-racers.

The record attempt will take place on August 10, 2023 on the "Parabolika" high-speed section of Hockenheimring (Advance registration is mandatory).

The project aims to advance e-mobility in addition to the academic context of the case study at Fulda University. Through this vehicle, we want to demonstrate the power and versatility of electric motors in motorsport.

Furthermore, through this project, we aim to strengthen Fulda University as an innovative, attractive study location and showcase what students can achieve with creativity and dedication. On June 16th and 17th, 2023, the Invent2Innovate campus invention fair took place on the university campus, where we presented the project to the public even before the record attempt.

Compared to the standard Porsche Bobby Car, we have maintained the basic shape and length. It is important to us that our vehicle remains recognizable as a Bobby Car. However, a few adjustments, like those in a real race car, were necessary: Lowered, wider track width, and a race-ready steering wheel have been installed.

Read the first reports here -> Press Articles

In the following videos, you can see the construction phase as well as the first test run of the electric Bobby Car. The construction was carried out by NTG, the innovative mechanical engineering company in Gelnhausen. The driver of the small racer, Marcel Paul, is pursuing his dual studies there. Next comes optimizing the vehicle, followed by the world record attempt. So stay tuned for the upcoming videos!
